Self-made skatepark under the E17 in Ledeberg

Let me start by explaining where to find this skatepark, since there’s no actual address I can give you. It’s located in Ghent, Ledeberg, along the Verzetspad, underneath the E17 highway. If you really need a house number: it’s roughly across from Hundelgemsesteenweg 218, 9050 Ghent — the street close to Verzetspad.

And yes, it’s truly a self-made skatepark. I have no idea who built it. I assume it were local skateboarders (edit op 2025-05-24: they are BMX riders) from the surrounding neighborhoods. But all the ramps and structures are also very well-suited for inline skaters.

The last time I passed by on my skates, it was just an empty lot with maybe one structure that — with a bit of imagination — could be called a quarter pipe. As you can see, a lot more people have clearly spent more time building than skating (edit op 2025-05-24: or riding BMX). 😊

It’s tucked away under the E17 highway. The noise from the cars overhead is actually not that bad. And the highway does help protect the wooden features from the rain.

The skatepark is definitely bric-a-brac. With all respect to whoever built it, I think even they would agree. As with any skatepark — but especially here — use it at your own risk. If there’s a nail sticking out of a panel: you should’ve spotted it beforehand. (Edit op 2025-05-24: BMX's have air tyres, so nails are not an issue, but the statement about "your own responsability" remains valid of course.) Use at your own risk… am I repeating myself?

Since the spot is close to Hundelgemsesteenweg, you can get there by car. But why would you? As you can see in the photos, it’s really made for the locals — I wouldn’t exactly plan a trip just to come here. 😊
