The FRX 80 is a great inline skate to get started with and to explore various inline skating disciplines.
You can set the wheels in a flat setup (all four wheels touch the ground at the same time) for freeride and fitness, or in a rockered setup (the wheels form a "banana" shape, and only two of the four wheels touch the ground at any given time) for freestyle (slalom).
This can be done by flipping the asymmetrical axles of the front and rear wheels.
The FRX 80 was developed based on the very popular FR1 80. To create a more budget-friendly inline skate, the bearings, wheels, frame, and cuff were slightly downgraded—still good quality, but a bit less premium than what you get with the FR1 80.
A major plus is the superior liner (inner boot). It offers a truly snug, glove-like fit.
Starting in 2025, the look and feel of the FRX has changed slightly after many years:
The reason we always try to convince skaters in the shop—especially those who want to take skating seriously as a hobby—to go one quality level up and choose the FR3 80, is the mounting system.
On the FRX, the frame is attached to the boot with just two nuts. Starting from the FR3 quality level, the frame is mounted on a "powerplate," which allows compatibility with a wider range of frames and reduces energy loss while skating.
